Aged care worker credentials and the police certificate requirement
Last updated
The three aged care credential types in Teiro, and how an aged care organisation requires a current police certificate before any worker can be assigned.
The short version
Teiro has three aged care credential types ready to use. For an aged care organisation, every worker needs a current Aged care police certificate before Teiro will let you assign them to a service.
The three credential types
| Credential | Expires | Evidence | Effect on assignment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aged care police certificate | Yes. The default expiry is 3 years. | Required | Required for assignment in an aged care organisation. See below. |
| Influenza vaccination | Yes. The default expiry is 1 year. | Required | Recorded only. It never blocks an assignment. |
| Aged Care Code of Conduct acknowledgement | No | Not required | Recorded. It is not part of the organisation-wide requirement. |
Record a credential on a worker
- 1.Open the worker's record.
- 2.Find the Competencies list and add a record.
- 3.Choose the credential type, then enter the dates and attach the evidence.
For the police certificate, record the expiry date from the certificate itself.
How the requirement works
When your organisation signs up as an aged care provider, Teiro requires the Aged care police certificate for every worker, on every service. The check runs when you assign a worker. A worker who is missing it appears with their missing qualifications. See Using the assignment panel.
Whether a missing credential blocks the assignment or only warns follows the setting on the service type. By default it blocks.
This requirement applies to the whole organisation. You do not have to add it to each service type.
Check with the guidance
The department's guidance, as at 30 October 2026, accepts either a police certificate issued within the past three years or a valid NDIS Worker Screening Clearance. Teiro's default requirement asks for the police certificate record. If you have workers who hold an NDIS clearance instead, read the worker screening guidance and confirm how you want to record them. Our own summary is at Aged care worker screening.
See who is expiring
The qualification compliance report lists every credential and its expiry across your workforce. Document expiry alerts covers the reminders.
