How to Check In to a Shift on Teiro

May 2026by Kate Morrison5 min read

How support workers use the Teiro mobile app to check in at the start of a shift and check out at the end — with GPS confirmation, shift notes, and incident reporting.

Checking In to a Shift on Teiro

The Teiro mobile app records check-in and check-out for every shift. This creates a real-time attendance record linked to the participant, the shift, and your worker profile — replacing paper timesheets and manual call-ins.

Here is how the process works from the moment you arrive at a shift.

Before you arrive

Open the Teiro app and find your shift on the home screen or in the Schedule tab. Tap the shift to open the shift detail screen.

On the shift detail screen, review:

  • The participant's name and address
  • Any health alerts or access notes
  • The support notes your coordinator has added for this visit

You should read these before you arrive, not after. Health alerts in particular can affect how you approach the visit.

Checking in

When you arrive at the participant's address, open the shift detail screen (if it is not already open) and tap Check in.

The app will request your location. Tap Allow if prompted. GPS confirms that you are at the correct address and records your check-in time automatically.

You will see a confirmation that check-in was successful. Your coordinator can see the check-in in real time from the web platform.

Teiro check-in confirmed — GPS stamp recorded

If location is not available. The app requires location permissions to record GPS check-in. If you previously denied location access, go to your phone's Settings, find the Teiro app, and set Location to "While using the app". Then return to Teiro and try again.

If you are inside a building and GPS is weak. The app will record the best available location. If your phone cannot get a GPS fix, check-in will still record with a note that location was unavailable. Contact your coordinator if this happens regularly at a particular address.

During the shift

Once checked in, the shift detail screen updates to show your check-in time and a Check out button. The shift is now marked as in progress.

You can leave the app and use your phone normally during the shift. The check-in record is already saved.

If anything significant happens during the shift, you can begin an incident report from the shift detail screen at any time. Tap Report incident and follow the prompts. You do not need to wait until checkout to submit an incident report.

Checking out

When the shift ends, open the shift detail screen and tap Check out. The app will confirm your location again and record your checkout time.

Your attendance for the shift -- check-in time, check-out time, and total duration -- is now recorded in the system.

Submitting shift notes

After checkout, you will be prompted to submit shift notes. This is required for most shifts.

Shift notes record:

  • What supports were delivered
  • How the participant presented during the visit
  • Any observations, concerns, or incidents
  • Any follow-up required

Fill in the fields and tap Submit. Your notes are linked to the participant record and the shift, with your name, the date, and the time automatically attached.

Your coordinator can see the notes immediately.

If you forget to check in or check out

If you arrive at a shift without checking in through the app, contact your coordinator as soon as you realise. They can make a manual attendance correction from the web platform with a note explaining the reason.

Do not attempt to work around a missed check-in by checking in at the wrong time. Accurate attendance records matter for both payroll and NDIS compliance.
